A Simultaneous Imaging Scheme of Stationary Clutter and Moving Targets for Maritime Scenarios with the First Chinese Dual-Channel Spaceborne SAR Sensor

Abstract: The technique of azimuth multichannel synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system has become a potential solution to the irreconcilable conflict between high-resolution and wide-swath (HRWS) confronted with in a traditional SAR system. Unambiguous imaging, especially for a scene with moving targets, is one of the crucial research topics in the HRWS SAR system. This paper proposes a simultaneous imaging scheme of moving targets and stationary clutter for maritime scenarios. First, the moving target echoes are extract… Show more

“…In the multi-channel system, the unambiguous imaging algorithm is developed for static scenes. But, for moving targets, azimuth Doppler ambiguity still exists after imaging [34]. The moving target detection method operating in the coarse-focused domain proposed in this paper avoids the adverse effect of Doppler ambiguity.…”

“…But, in some applications, we hope to get an unambiguous imaging result of moving targets free from the false targets and expect the moving targets to focus on their correct positions instead of just marking them. An unambiguous imaging scheme of moving targets for maritime scenarios is proposed in Reference [34]. One of the important steps is to compensate for the phase term introduced by the radial velocity.…”

“…Although imaging a wide swath unambiguously limits the pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of the system, collecting signals by multiple channels simultaneously is equivalent to an increased effective sampling rate on receive. Thus, the azimuth multi-channel system could sample the signal with a large Doppler bandwidth with a sufficiently high PRF, which corresponds to the high resolution [13]. In addition, to obtain an ultrawide swath, the azimuth multi-channel ScanSAR system switches the antenna footprint between several sub-swathes [14].…”

“…As a mature remote-sensing technology, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can realize all-day and all-weather imaging of the Earth's surface, and it plays a vital role in Earth observation and remote sensing [1][2][3][4][5]. With the development of remote-sensing application demand in recent years, SAR is expected to observe a wide range of scenes while having the ability to detect small targets.…”
