A simple modified surgical technique combined with tissue adhesive for steatocystoma multiplex

Abstract: Steatocystoma multiplex (SM) is a benign disorder of the pilosebaceous unit, manifesting as multiple asymptomatic dermal cysts. The current pathogenesis may be related to the autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance involving a keratin 17 mutation. 1 Clinically, SM is characterized by yellowish-to-skin-colored nodules, varying from a few mm to 20 mm or more in diameter on the forehead, neck, trunk, and flexion

“…Multiple treatment options are reported for SM including surgical excision, oral isotretinoin, topical retinoids, cryotherapy, and laser ablation. 11 Minimally invasive surgical removal techniques are thought to produce the most consistent outcomes with good cosmetic results and decreased lesion recurrence. 1,11 O RCI D Sarah D. “…[ 1 8 ] The use of tissue adhesives for skin closure following the surgical removal of the cyst has good efficacy. [ 31 ] For localized variants of SM, local destructive methods such as cryotherapy have been reported to be efficacious. [ 32 ] The complete surgical excision of the cysts followed by skin grafting has been tried in the past.…”
