A simple method for rejection sampling efficiency improvement on SIMT architectures

Abstract: We derive a probability distribution for the possible number of iterations required for a SIMT (single instruction multiple thread) program using rejection sampling to finish creating a sample across all threads. This distribution is found to match a recently proposed distribution from [6] that was shown as a good approximation of certain datasets. This work demonstrates an exact application of this distribution. The distribution can be used to evaluate the relative merit of some sampling methods on the GPU wi… Show more

“…The typical methods of this kind of idea are the rejection sampling and the importance sampling. For the rejection sampling [17], although the sampling is from the proposal distribution, the sampled data need to be accepted with a certain probability according to the target distribution. So it is not necessary to pay attention to the CDF or the inverse CDF, but only require that the probability density of the target distribution can be calculated.…”
