A Simple Method for Isolation of Cardiomyocytes from Adult Rat Heart

Abstract: A simple, economic, and sparing method for isolation of cardiomyocytes from adult rat heart is proposed. Ultrastructure of cardiomyocytes from suspension of freshly isolated cells was studied by light and transmission electron microscopy. The isolated cardiomyocytes were viable, had characteristic shape and size, and retained their normal structure.

“…The proportion of these with cardiomyogenic potential is unknown, but the present data indicate that this might be a productive area for further research. Rat hearts contain around 10 7 myocytes [51], and a rough estimate of the infarct volume suggests that in the order of 2-5  10 5 , cells would be susceptible to damage so the number of cells delivered was estimated to be appropriate.…”
