A simple mathematical tool to forecast COVID-19 cumulative case numbers

Abstract: Objective Mathematical models are known to help determine potential intervention strategies by providing an approximate idea of the transmission dynamics of infectious diseases. To develop proper responses, not only are more accurate disease spread models needed, but also those that are easy to use. Materials and methods As of July 1, 2020, we selected the 20 countries with the highest numbers of COVID-19 cases in the world. Using the Verhulst–Pearl logistic function fo… Show more

“…One of the most relevant points is that the early termination of any elective neurosurgical service by about 70% was very diffused regardless of the nationality and type of hospital practice of the responders. Not surprisingly, the concerns raised by a large proportion of responders regarding the risks of triaging patients and rationing the neurosurgical offer are in keeping with those recently reported by others (2,9,12,18,(24)(25)(26)(27)(28). Furthermore, it should be noted that the extended lockdown period, and the justified patients' anxiety of getting infected with SARS-CoV-2 when attending hospitals, might have delayed access to care for most pathological conditions.…”

“…Therefore, it is essential to consider the target audience's age while selecting textbook material, as word and sentence length tend to increase (Batur & Özcan, 2020;Turkben, 2019). A book's chapters should be organized to build upon one another and serve as necessary preconditions (Balak et al, 2021;Sonmez & Gokmenoglu, 2022). The information delivered in such a text is straightforward to retain.…”

“…From a neurosurgical perspective, the high virulence of SARS-CoV-2 and the severe natural history of COVID-19 eroded the availability of high dependency unit (HDU) and intensive care unit (ICU) beds. Furthermore, the lockdown in many countries necessitated the immediate modification of working routines, resulting in a dramatic decrease in elective surgeries and, in some cases, a shutdown of elective neurosurgical services [ 2 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ].…”
