A simple, fast, side−looking current transformer

Abstract: A very simple current transformer is made by using a loop of shorted coaxial cable. The measured current passes near the loop and not through it. Decay constants between 10 and 100 μsec are readily obtained. The rise time is limited only by the quality of the coaxial cable.
