A simple and sensitive turn‐on fluorescence probe for detection of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide in aqueous samples

Abstract: The interaction of acid (PTCA) with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) has been studied by fluorescence spectroscopy. The fluorescence of PTCA can be greatly enhanced by the addition of CTAB, due to the formation a fluorescent supramolecular compound. Under optimum conditions, the enhancement intensity of fluorescence was proportional to the concentration of CTAB over a range of 0-4.5 µmol L(-1) . Its detection limit was 0.057 µmol L(-1) , which was lower than reported previously. Compared with other method… Show more

“…41 Perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid (PTCA) was synthesized following the reported protocol in the literature. 63 A Varian Cary 60 (Agilent Technologies) spectrophotometer was used for performing UV-Vis studies. During the Kemp elimination reaction, the formation of the product was monitored by following the absorbance at 380 nm.…”

“…Since ionic detergents such as CTAB and sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) have been shown to modulate the strength of uorescent probes 20,45,46 and since detergent micelles have been used as membrane mimics for the study of membrane proteins, 47,48 it was decided that the interactions of AT5 with both ionic and neutral detergents should be characterized. To do this, various concentrations anking the critical micelle concentration of CTAB, Triton X-100 (Triton), SDS, or Tween 20 (Tween) were separately mixed with 100 mM AT5 in PBS.…”
