A set up of a modern analytical laboratory for wastewaters from pulp and paper industry

Abstract: The introduction of analytical techniques allowing rapid, selective, sensitive, and reliable determination of aqueous pollutants is of crucial importance for the protection of the environment. This critical review summarizes the advanced analytical techniques suggested over the last ten years together with already established methods, and evaluates whether they are fit for wastewater quality assessment considering the area of application, interferences, limit of detection, calibration function, and precision. … Show more

“…The repeatability of the proposed method was estimated as the relative standard deviation (RSD) for 10 consecutive injections of a 1 mg of OrgCl − L −1 solution; under these conditions, the RSD was 2.6%. The reproducibility was calculated from the RSD of the slopes of eight day-to-day regression curves and found to be 1.7%, which is roughly 5 times better than that of AOX/EOX commercial analyzers. , The injection throughput (IT) as determined in accordance with the standard procedure was 9 samples h −1 . Although the operating endurance of the system was limited by the useful life of the SPE disk portion, the flow system was able to operate unattended for at least 12 h (110 injections).…”

“…A complete study of all potentially present HOCs in a concrete sample is an enormous effort. Instead, HOCs are usually determined jointly as a group parameter, which is one of the keys to assessing water quality …”

“…Urban and industrial wastewaters are usually characterized by global parameters but other methods can be used, such as micropollutant identification (organics or minerals), 1 toxicity assessment or none parametric methods. Characterisation methods are chosen according to the monitoring objectives and more particularly to the three types of the Water Framework Directive: surveillance, operational and investigative monitoring.…”

“…The overexploitation of non-renewable resources by human society has resulted in the current global energy and environmental crisis. 1,2 The efficient utilization of biomass resources is regarded as one of the critical approaches to get rid of mankind's overwhelming dependence on fossil fuels. [3][4][5] Several countries have taken actions to strengthen the utilization of biomass resources to replace fossil resources in order to promote the necessary supply of fine chemicals and liquid fuels within the next decade as a short-term goal.…”
