Sistem cloud chamber menggunakan pendingin berbasis Termoelektrik telah dibangun. Penggunaan termoelektrik sebagai alternatif pendingin konvensional yaitu nitrogen cair dan es kering. Keunggulan termoelektrik adalah stabil dan tidak habis pakai, namun kemampuannya mencapai suhu rendah cloud chamber masih dibawah bahan pendingin lainnya. Eksperimen ini akan menguji konfigurasi dari Termoelektrik yang dapat menghasilkan jejak cloud sebagai pengamatan radiasi dalam cloud chamber. Dua Termoelektrik digunakan yaitu TEC1-12710 dan Termoelektrik TEC1-12706 secara terpisah maupaun tergabung. Selain itu diuji juga apakah penggunaan pelat logam sebagai alas chamber dapat meningkatkan kinerja. Jejak partikel dihasilkan dari sunber radiasi Am-241 dan Rd-226. Hasil yang diperoleh adalah hanya ketika kedua termoelektrik ditumpuk dan tanpa adanya pelat, dicapai temperatur paling rendah dan terbentuk jejak partikel.

This paper presents the design and reports on the use of a simple and inexpensive cloud chamber kit that is compatible with active learning, experiential learning, and project-based learning strategies. The kit was developed for use in a first-year undergraduate nuclear science seminar class at a university in the US. Diffusion cloud chambers are commonly used in classroom demonstrations to teach students about cosmic rays and ionizing radiation. A variety of clever and novel cloud chambers found in the literature were built and tested as part of this work and are all suitable for instructor-led classroom demonstrations. However, each has drawbacks that limit its use in hands-on classroom activities as part of active learning, experiential learning, and project-based learning in the classroom. The purpose of this work was to develop a cloud chamber ‘kit’ that can be built in less than 10 min by students during class and guarantees student success in observing background radiation. The cloud chamber kit was found to be highly sensitive to background radiation, and several different types of high-energy particles, including muons or anti-muons, electrons or positrons, photoelectrons, and alpha particles, were detected and identified using the kits at a rate of over 20 tracks per minute measured indoors at sea level at latitude 42.3601° N. The simplicity of the cloud chamber kit presented here makes it compatible with a variety of best practices for active learning in the classroom and requires little preparation time outside of class.

The Wilson cloud chamber is an apparatus used for detecting and observing the trails of alpha/beta rays or even cosmic rays in saturated gas conditions. The principle of this device is based upon the powerful ionization of the aforementioned rays within the medium. This article will provide instruction for creating a classic version of the cloud chamber using a glass food container and dry ice. Some common malfunctions and disadvantages of the classic version will be discussed. Moreover, this article will introduce an improvement of the cloud chamber using the Peltier chip as an alternative for dry ice, and also compare the pros and cons of these two methods.

Abstract: Abstract. We present a sensitive diffusion cloud chamber which does not require any radioactive sources. A major difference from a commonly used chamber is use of a heat sink as its bottom plate. A result of a performance test of the chamber is given.
