A Semi-Lumped Miniaturized Spurious Less Frequency Tunable Three-port Divider\Combiner with 20 dB Isolation Between Output Ports

Abstract: Abstract-We propose a new topology based on a semilumped complex impedance transformer for the design of a frequency tunable three-port power divider. A prototype has been realized in a hybrid technology with commercially available varactor diodes. Our design is based on an impedance transformer in the input branch (with electrical length of 20.4°), and a loop in the output branches (with electrical length of 2x24°). This leads to a miniaturized device, more than two times shorter than a classical Wilkinson po… Show more

“…Figure 2 shows the topology of the power divider proposed in this article. As shown in [9], this topology can be divided in two blocs: an "input transformer" and an "output loop." This loop is necessary to achieve isolation between the two output ports (ports 2 and 3).…”

“…The input impedance at the junction point (J), seen from ports 2 and 3, is not necessarily equal to the matching input impedance (usually 50 ⍀). The input transformer differs from [9], it is just composed by one capacitor and one transmission line.…”

“…To that end, many researchers have managed to realise tunability of centre frequency [57]- [58] or operating band range [59]- [60]. However, these designs still can"t change the amplitude of power at output terminations.…”

“…In [61], though a planar structure with variable amplitude ratio was presented, it suffered from the obvious drawback of uncontrolled phase performance at three output ports. Fig 2.3(a) shows a design of a tunable power divider with 2:1 power division based on a ring structure [57]. Fig 2.4(b) shows another frequency agile power divider which covers frequency range of 1.7 GHz to 2.4 GHz [62].…”
