This paper presents a new scheme for TFRC-based rate control with JPEG 2000 real-time video streaming over the Internet. Due to the low-delay and error resilient nature of JPEG 2000, JPEG 2000 real-time video streaming is a viable streaming solution on the Internet. In this paper, we have implemented a system using JPEG 2000 real-time video streaming with a TFRCbased algorithm; we modified it to add a function of prediction of possible packet loss by the ratio of long-term RTT to short-term RTT. We have evaluated a scheme simply adapted from TFRC (Simple Adaptation Method) and our proposal (Loss Prediction Method) based on the number of dropped bytes, received video quality and total TCP throughput. Our experimental result shows Loss Prediction Method has better performance on JPEG 2000 real-time video streaming.
