A Rule-Based System for Human Performance Evaluation: A Case Study

Abstract: The issues of many organizations are related to the proper evaluation of human performance and efficient decision-making. The expert system application within the decision-making process is not a novelty, but the widespread of its implementation regarding performance evaluation has not been recognized yet. To overcome this problem, a case study of rule-based expert system application in the decision-making process regarding human performance in periodical technical inspection stations in Croatia is presented. … Show more

“…However, the biggest challenge for researchers during experimental studies is to design the most accurate and responsive rule base [ 66 , 67 ]. An incorrectly designed rule base can have a negative impact on model performance [ 68 ]. Therefore, instead of designing the rule base of the proposed ADFIST model manually, the authors used PSO for rule learning.…”

“…On the other hand, PYKE another Python library has been integrated with Python's Support Vector Machine to detect extremist content on websites ). An expert system for inspection of vehicle was however developed by integrating VisiRule with a statistical package (Mikulić et al, 2018). Other notable platforms for use in the development of expert systems include a combination of Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, the REST API and Flask -a framework for developing web applications (Mujawar et al, 2018).…”

“…It was inspired by PROLOG and introduced logic programming for the Python community (Bruce, n.d.; Zarca et al, 2019). PYKE is written purely in Python (Ug, 2022; Bruce, n.d.) and has been recommended for use in the development of expert systems(Liu, 2018;Mikulić et al, 2021). Key strengths of the tool are that it easily integrates with Python programs, supports both forward and backward chaining(Zhang et al, 2018) and enables the utilisation of multiple fact and rule bases in addition to initialisation of several inference engines(Shetty et al, 2020).…”

“…Long-term human resources development should be a strategic approach for management [6]. Evaluation of human resources and decision making are interlinked in many organisations [7]. The most important link of the HRM chain is personnel selection [8].…”

“…In paper [7], authors proposed a new rule-based expert system with the ability to imitate human thinking and identify the facts of importance for decision making that provide a reduction in errors, enables transparency, and improves the efficiency of the decision-making process. The researchers implemented expert systems within the human performance evaluation in the case of the Croatian PTI system.…”
