A rotating collapsar and possible interpretation of the LSD neutrino signal from SN 1987A

Abstract: Abstract-We consider an improved rotational mechanism of the explosion of a collapsing supernova. We show that this mechanism leads to two-stage collapse with a phase difference of ∼5 h. Based on this model, we attempt a new interpretation of the events in underground neutrino detectors on February 23, 1987, related to the supernova SN 1987A.

“…[23][24][25] Although, later analysis of the SN1987A data has not confirmed the fact of ν-GW correlation, 26,27 it has provoked for a non-standard two-stage scenario of stellar collapse (see a review in Ref. 28). The mean neutrino energy (during the first stage of the collapse) in this model is 30-40 MeV.…”

“…The expansion rate continues to be about 4200 km/sec and there is no core X-ray source brighter than erg/sec. Efforts are still being made to account 34 1.5 # 10 for two neutrino bursts (Imshennik & Ryazhskaya 2004) and to connect the event with merger of a binary white dwarf (Middleditch 2004) and the formation of a 2.14 msec pulsar reported there some years ago.…”
