A Rorschach validation study of the ego regression theory of psychopathology.

Abstract: Four times during a 20-month period 33 schizophrenics were given a psychiatric interview (to ascertain clinical status) and the Rorschach. Test-retest changes in 10 Rorschach indices of ego regression were then correlated with concurrent measures of clinical status change. F + %, R, Perseveration and Scorability were significantly related as predicted. Moreover, subjects not receiving medication showed more evidence of regression and recovery as their clinical status either declined or improved than did subjec… Show more

“…Bemporad (1967) found evidence of a deficit in perceptual organization of a fragmented nature in schizophrenics. These results are in agreement with studies that have found primitive or fragmented perception on the Rorschach (Becker, 1956;Blumetti & Greenberg, 1978;Exner, 1974Exner, ,1978Friedman, 1952;Glatt & Karon, 1974;Harder & Ritzler, 1979;Hemmendinger, 1953;O'Neil, O'Neil, 61 Quinlan, 1976;Phillips, Kaden, & Waldman, 1959;Siegel, 1953;Wilson, 1954). These studies produced and refined cognitive developmental scoring indices based on Werner's (1948) microgenetic theory of perceptual and cognitive development.…”
