“…Rates of tympanometry failure were very low in both stages (1.9% and 1.3%, respectively), in keeping with the trend for Chinese children to be less affected by middle ear infection than their Western counterparts (Rushton, Tong, Yue, Wormald, & van Hasselt, 1997;Wan & Wong, 2002). Likewise, pure tone audiometry failure rates could be considered as very low in both stages (2.6% and 2.8%, respectively), if compared with standard Western reports [e.g., Nozza, Sabo, and Mandel (1997) cite a failure rate of 13.2% for 5-10 yr old children]. In contrast, however, otoscopy failure rates in the current study were twice as high as described in the previous stage (7.8% vs. 3.5%, respectively).…”
