Information security is one of the most important methods of protecting the confidentiality and privacy of internet users. The greater the volume of data, the more the need to increase the security methods for protecting data from intruders. This task can be challenging for researchers in terms of managing enormous data and maintaining their safety and effectiveness. Protection of digital content is a major issue in maintaining the privacy and secrecy of data. Toward this end, digital watermarking is based on the concept of information security through the insertion and detection of an embedded watermark in an efficient manner. Recent methodologies in the research on digital watermarking result in data distortion after embedding the watermark. This scenario can reduce the efficiency of detecting watermarks as well as violate data confidentiality. This study adapts a robust reversible histogram shifting (HS) technique for textual data in relational databases. Furthermore, the study presents a digital watermarking scheme intended for document copyright protection and proof of ownership. The major advantage of the proposed watermarking scheme is that it can protect digital data and preserve data quality. To the best of our knowledge, this research methodology is promising for use in the HS expansion model for watermarking data on nonnumeric databases. In addition, the results showed that despite exposing the database to an insertion attacks at 50% and 75% of the watermark, the proposed algorithm can recover more than half of the embedded watermark in all addition and alteration attacks cases. As a result, the watermark information can be retained and restored completely.

Databases play a pivotal role in all domains of technology, encompassing data mining, medical records, stock market data, e-commerce etc. With this elevated need for databases and their wide distribution in the web sphere, their security has become a major concern today. It is in this context that watermarked protection of databases has started receiving increasing attention from researchers. We present two of the most important security concerns related to protection of relational database: (i) Ownership proof and (ii) Tamper detection. We explain the functions of various components of a Robust Watermarking Model (RWM) to resolve ownership issues and a Fragile Watermarking Model (FWM) to deal with Integrity issues. We discuss various attacks that are possible on databases and present the appropriate security solutions to overcome them.

Özetçe-Son yıllardaki veritabanı uygulamalarının sayısındaki artış, sayısal hakların korunması problemini beraberinde getirmiştir. Çoklu ortam dosyalarındaki hak yönetimi için önerilen algoritmalar, veritabanları üzerinde doğrudan uygulanamamaktadır. Veritabanı damgalama için kullanılan yöntemlerden bazıları, ilişkide yer alan tarih biçimine sahip özelliklerden faydalanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, tarih alanı altında yer alan zaman bilgisi kullanılarak damgalama gerçekleştirilecektir. Saniye bilgisi daha az ilgi çekeceği için damga bilgisini saklamada kullanılırken, saat ve dakika bilgisinden ise özellik seçiminde faydalanılacaktır. Veritabanından kayıt seçimini gerçekleştirebilmek için, birincil anahtar ve SHA-256 kullanan yöntem, aynı zamanda alt bölümleme gerçekleştirmektedir. Damga yerleştirme esnasında alt bölümleme kullanılması yöntemin ataklara karşı dayanıklılığını artırmaktadır. Önerilen yöntem, sonuçlardan da gözlemlenebileceği gibi çeşitli ataklara (altküme silme, değiştirme ve ekleme) karşı literatürdeki benzer yöntemlerden daha üstün sonuçlar üretmektedir. Anahtar Kelimeler-Sayısal Damgalama, Veritabanı, SHA.Abstract-Digital rights management problem has become a critical issue due to the increasing number of database applications. Proposed watermarking methods to deal with copyright management problem of multimedia cannot be applied to the databases directly. Some methods that watermark the databases use the date fields in the relation. In this work, we propose a method that uses the time field of a date attribute to watermark the relation. The method uses seconds field to hide the watermark, hour and minute field to determine which of the date attributes of the current tuple accommodate watermark information. Primary key and SHA are used together to choose the records from the relation for watermarking purposes. Tuples in the relations are also partitioned to make the method more robust against some attacks. The proposed method gives better results to various attacks (subset deletion, alteration and modification) compared to other Works in the literature as can be seen in the results.
