A Robust Geochemical Simulator to Model Improved Oil Recovery Methods

Abstract: The interest in modeling geochemical reactions has increased significantly for different improved oil recovery processes such as Alkali-Surfactant-Polymer (ASP) flood, low salinity water flood, and EDTA injection as a sacrificial agent in hard brine. Numerical simulation of multiphase flow coupled with geochemical reactions is challenging due to complex and coupled aqueous, aqueous-solid, and aqueousoleic reactions. These reactions have significant impact upon oil recovery, and hence a robust geochemical simul… Show more

“…That is, location and configuration of adsorbed species at the surface 49 . Vast majority of past studies that have been conducted on CSWF use DLM 5,17,23,32,42,[50][51][52] , which calculates only the potential at the surface (0-plane). It is noteworthy that surface potential can be significantly different from the ζ-potential.…”

“…On the other hand, polymer flooding is expected to improve the macroscopic sweep efficiency, due to a favourable displacement mobility ratio. Hence, the hybrid process is expected to provide the combined benefits of both EOR methods [ 33 , 34 , 35 ]. Low-salinity/sulfate-modified water injection as a pre-flush is expected to change the reservoir wettability from oil-wet to water-wet and change the fluid distribution in the reservoir.…”
