A robust coupled model for solute transport driven by severe flow conditions

Abstract: This paper introduces a computationally efficient model that solves a 4 Â 4 matrix form of the hyperbolic conservation laws consisting of the 2D shallow water and advection-diffusion equations. The model allows automatic shock-capturing due to the implementation of a finite volume Godunov-type scheme featured with an HLLC approximate Riemann solver. The numerical scheme is also able to provide well-balanced solutions and maintain non-negative water depth and solute concentration for applications involving wett… Show more

“…e test is carried out in a 200 m × 800 m rectangular domain, with the north and south boundaries as wall boundaries, the west boundary as the inflow boundary, and the east boundary as the outflow boundary so that free flow is achieved [1]. e entire domain has a flatbed, and the influence of bottom friction is not considered.…”

“…In July 1995, the Hun River and Taizi River basins located in Liaoning Province in China experienced large flood events; multiple levees burst in both rivers and 7.6 × 10 5 hm 2 of farmland were submerged by the flood following a dike break; the economic losses reached ¥34.4 billion. e Brisbane River in Australia flooded after continuous rainfall in January 2011, resulting in a severe flood disaster with large impacts on urban residents and the infrastructure [1]. Flooding events in Europe caused losses of about 4.9 billion euros every year from 2000 to 2012 [2].…”

“…Moradi and Mehdinejadiani () established solute transport models in homogeneous and heterogeneous porous media using spatial fractional advection‐dispersion equation. Besides, the publications (Feehley et al , ; Dentz et al , ; Larsbo et al , ; Bijeljic et al , ; ; ; Anwar, ; Zhang et al , ; Gharehbaghi, ) also consider the solute transport. Beyond that, the uncertainty analysis and estimation method (Mirzaei et al , ; ; Faghih et al , ) can be also used for reference and improvement of the groundwater connection tracing.…”
