A Robot Collision Avoidance Method Using Kinect and Global Vision

Abstract: This paper introduces a robot collision avoidance method using Kinect and global vision to improve the industrial robot's security. Global vision is installed above the robot, and a combination of the background-difference method and the Otsu algorithm are used. Human skeleton detection is then Keywords: robot safety, human body skeleton detection, Kalman filter, global vision, security controlCopyright © 2017 Universitas Ahmad Dahlan. All rights reserved. “…In mobile robot navigation, stable and reliable positioning results are the key prerequisite for planning paths. In recent years, Kinect has increasingly been applied in robot obstacle avoidance [ 1 , 2 ], target reconstruction [ 3 , 4 ], target tracking [ 5 , 6 ], attitude control [ 7 , 8 ] and other fields due to its advantageous features. Kinect is a novel 3D stereoscopic camera developed by Microsoft, which can provide RGB and depth information of the mobile robot’s environment for users, and is low in price, making it suitable for replacing conventional ultrasonic radar and laser radar as a distance sensor.…”

“…Through visual feedback, the robot can achieve more convenient interaction with people . In recent years, Kinect has increasingly been applied in robot obstacle avoidance, target reconstruction, target tracking, attitude control, and other fields due to its advantageous features. Some visual sensors have also emerged, such as Kinect is a novel 3D stereoscopic camera developed by Microsoft, which can provide RGB and depth information of the mobile robot's environment for users, and is low in price, making it suitable for replacing conventional ultrasonic radar and laser radar as a distance sensor.…”
