“…The second adjustment involves the coordinate systems used. The magnetic coordinates used by Zhang & Paxton (2008) are the Altitude Adjusted CGM coordinates (AACGM) of Baker & Wing (1989) and Bhavnani & Hein (1994) while IRI uses the Corrected Geo-Magnetic (CGM) coordinates of Gustafsson et al (1992). Both coordinate systems use the International Geomagnetic Reference Field (Finlay et al 2010) to trace from a point in space to the dipole geomagnetic equator and then trace back down along the dipole field line returning to the same altitude (CGM) or to the ground (AACGM) and use the so found geographic coordinates as the CGM or AACGM coordinates for the original point in space.…”
