A review: Partial discharge detection using acoustic sensor on high voltage transformer

Abstract: Partial discharge (PD) is an electrical discharge which is one of the most critical breakdown factor that is affecting the electrical equipment. The loss of the power will affect consumers and system operation. High voltage (HV) transformer is one of the equipment’s subjected to phenomena PD. In this paper reviews an application of acoustic methods in transformer and piezoelectric sensors application on PD detection in HV transformer. Based on this review, the new design in acoustic sensor is required in order… Show more

“…Power transformers are the most important and sensitive elements in electrical power transmission and distribution systems [ 1 ], they alone financially represent 60% of the construction price of an electrical station and are the cause of 85% of medium and high voltage network failures [ 2 , 3 ]. This equipment is used to transform electrical quantities (voltage-current) from one voltage level to another, thus promoting the transport of energy.…”

“…As a widespread signal in all corners of the natural environment, the acoustic signal contains a great deal of environmental information and serves as an effective carrier for information transmission. Compared to other sensing technologies, acoustic sensing offers the advantages of non-contact measurement, easily deployable, and small data size, which is conducive to promoting the development of IoT and 5G technologies. In addition, acoustic sensors are widely used in various fields such as military, medical, , and industrial , applications. In the electric power industry, for example, effective fault analysis can be carried out by detecting the noise of transformers. , …”

“…In the electric power industry, for example, effective fault analysis can be carried out by detecting the noise of transformers. 13,14 The main types of acoustic sensors include capacitive, 15 piezoresistive, 16 piezoelectric, 17 and triboelectric. 18,19 Triboelectric acoustic sensors are receiving increasing attention because of their high sensitivity and the non-requirement of an external power supply.…”

“…Therefore, noise in the acquired image can cause a difficulty to extract the data during image analysis due to degradation. Noise presence in the images is cause by variety factor that include environmental noise, electronic and electromagnetic interferences introduced during the signal acquisition stage, lighting, camera sensor, and aging equipment [1,2].…”
