Oil-immersed transformers are expensive equipment in the electrical system, and their failure would lead to widespread blackouts and catastrophic economic losses. In this work, an elaborate diagnostic approach is proposed to evaluate twenty-six different transformers in-service to determine their operative status as per the IEC 60599:2022 standard and CIGRE brochure. The approach integrates dissolved gas analysis (DGA), transformer oil integrity analysis, visual inspections, and two Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN) algorithms to predict the loss of life (LOL) of the transformers through condition monitoring of the cellulose paper. The first BPNN algorithm proposed is based on forecasting the degree of polymerization (DP) using 2-Furaldehyde (2FAL) concentration measured from oil samples using DGA, and the second BPNN algorithm proposed is based on forecasting transformer LOL using the 2FAL and DP data obtained from the first BPNN algorithm. The first algorithm produced a correlation coefficient of 0.970 when the DP was predicted using the 2FAL measured in oil and the second algorithm produced a correlation coefficient of 0.999 when the LOL was predicted using the 2FAL and DP output data obtained from the first algorithm. The results show that the BPNN can be utilized to forecast the DP and LOL of transformers in-service. Lastly, the results are used for hazard analysis and lifespan prediction based on the health index (HI) for each transformer to predict the expected years of service.

This paper presents a comprehensive review of theoretical investigations concerning the influence of Newtonian fluids on heat transfer processes. Newtonian fluids are characterized by a constant viscosity that remains unaffected by variations in shear rate. Their widespread utilization in heat transfer applications is attributed to their consistent and stable flow behaviour, facilitating easier modelling and analysis. A prominent exemplification of the application of Newtonian fluids in heat transfer lies in electronic cooling systems. These fluids, typified by substances like water or oil, efficiently dissipate the heat generated by electronic components through circulation within the cooling system. Moreover, Newtonian fluids play a pivotal role as heat transfer agents in heat exchangers, wherein an array of tubes facilitates the exchange of thermal energy between two fluids separated by a conductive partition. In addition, within the realm of industrial processes, Newtonian fluids find utility in mixing tanks and reactors for tasks ranging from heat transfer between different phases to the maintenance of uniform temperatures within the vessel. The consistent behaviour and low viscosity of Newtonian fluids render them exceptionally effective in mediating heat transfer across diverse applications. This paper presents a comprehensive comparative study between air and Newtonian fluids as heat transfer media in various industrial applications. The objective is to assess the advantages, limitations, and suitability of each medium in different scenarios, considering factors such as thermal efficiency, cost-effectiveness, ease of implementation, and environmental impact. This study embarks on an exploration of the multifaceted utilization of Newtonian fluids in both industrial and consumer contexts, shedding light on their indispensable role in enhancing heat transfer processes.

This paper reviews the experimental and numerical findings on the impact of Newtonian fluids in heat transfer. Newtonian fluids are characterized by a constant viscosity that does not depend on the shear rate. They are commonly used in heat transfer applications because they exhibit predictable and stable flow behaviour, making them easier to model and analyze. A popular application of Newtonian fluids in heat transfer is electronic cooling. The heat generated by electronic components can be dissipated by circulating the Newtonian fluids, such as water or oil, through a cooling system. Newtonian fluids are also used as heat transfer fluid in heat exchangers, which use a series of tubes to transfer heat between two fluids separated by a conductive barrier. Newtonian fluids are also used for industrial processes like mixing and agitation in mixing tanks and reactors to transfer heat between different phases or to maintain a consistent temperature within the vessel. The predictable behaviour and low viscosity make Newtonian fluids efficient in heat transfer across the barrier. This study explores the use of Newtonian fluids in heat transfer applications in both industrial and consumer settings.
