“…The fruit of E. lacunosus was used by the Dulong people to treat traumatic injury. Studies have shown that the fruit of E. ganitrus could act as opioid receptor antagonists to reduce the secretion of neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine, norepinephrine, and dopamine, showing good analgesic effects ( Katavic et al, 2007 ; Hong et al, 2019 ; Prasannan et al, 2020 ). The Dulong people use the fruit of Vaccinium gaultheriifolium to treat rheumatism.…”

“…The presence of water‐storage cells only in the stellar region of E. variabilis suggests that this feature can be used to distinguish E. variabilis from E. angustifolius , and E. tuberculatus . The morphological differences between the species of the genus and its related species was not adequately recorded and still not completely monographed, despite the taxonomical importance of the genus (Prasannan et al, 2020). So, identifying the species using morphological characters is very difficult and therefore, the anatomical key probably could augment the identification of three Elaeocarpus species.…”

“…Moreover, the phylogenetic relationship between Elaeocarpus species are poorly understood, and only a few molecular studies have been undertaken so far, with the number of loci and taxon sample being limited (Prasannan et al, 2020). In addition, some of the taxonomic studies carried out in the past (Irudhayaraj & Ramasubbu, 2014; Irudhyaraj & Ramasubbu, 2017; Meijer, 1995; Murti, 1993; Ramamoorthy, 1976; Ramasubbu & Irudhyaraj, 2016; Saldanha, 1984; Vijayan, 2017) had also assisted in the identification of the genus in the Indian subcontinent.…”

“…1 Generally, species from Elaeocarpaceae are reported to contain active compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, terpenoids, and phenolic acids. 2,3 Elaeocarpus's bark has potential as an antidiabetic drug. 4 Furthermore, the leaves can be used in herbal medicine as tonics, diuretics, and fever relievers.…”
