A Review on Renewable Energy Transition under China’s Carbon Neutrality Target

Abstract: To achieve their carbon peak and carbon neutrality target, China’s energy transition is seen as the most important instrument. Despite the rapid growth of renewable energy in China, there are still many challenges. Based on the review of the contemporary literature, this paper seeks to present an updated depiction of renewable energy in the Chinese context. The potential, status quo, and related policy of China’s renewable energy are thoroughly investigated. The challenges facing renewable energy development u… Show more

“…Contributions, in their wider sense, include providing favorable policies that assist businesses, such as tax breaks and financial subsidies. Narrow subsidies, on the other hand, are equivalent to direct subsidies, which are capital subsidies in which the government gives businesses direct capital infusions (Demirel & Danisman, 2019;Fu et al, 2020;Zhao et al, 2022).…”

“…Using the method of moments quantile regression (MMQR), Liu et al [ 27 ] evaluated the contribution of renewable energy consumption to carbon neutrality in the BRICS countries and found that the use of renewable energy reduced CO 2 emissions in all quartiles in the BRICS countries. In connection to the US carbon neutrality aim, Zhao et al [ 28 ] discovered that environmental and renewable energy R&D positively contribute to carbon neutrality by reducing atmospheric CO 2 emissions, while renewable energy R&D also plays a significant role in lowering haze pollution like PM2.2. As a result, one of the most important ways to guarantee that carbon neutrality goals are realized is to increase expenditure and investment in research and development for renewable energy sources.…”
