A Review on Quantitative Approaches for Dock Door Assignment in Cross-Docking

Abstract: Cross docking is a relatively new technique in supply chain operations. It offers limited storage time to maximize the efficiency of goods transshipment. Efficient operation of a cross docking system requires an appropriate coordination of inbound and outbound flows, accurate planning and dynamic scheduling. The planning strategies at cross docking terminals, which are receiving growing attention today, are the truck-to-door assignment and destination to door assignment problems. This paper provides a comprehe… Show more

“…Their review article also covers the articles studied in Agustina et al [3], Boysen and Fliedner [27] and Stephan and Boysen [118]. Because [114] review specically the mathematical models used to assign trucks to doors when operating cross-docks, Walha et al [133] review cross-docking models dealing with uncertainty, while Buijs et al [31] review and classify synchronization problems in cross-docking networks. Because they conceptualize synchronization as the coordination of the local and network-wide operations, their review also covers operational issues.…”

“…storing and retrieving are eliminated. The reviews of earlier literature on o mathematical models cross-dock planning provided Agustina et al [1], and and quantitative approaches for dock door assignment in cross-docking elaborated Shuib et al [2]. The authors develop integer linear programming as well as non-linear dynamic programming models which typical objective is to minimize the total penalty of earliness and tardiness in incoming and outgoing trucks.…”

“…A number of studies conducted detailed reviews of the literature and the industry practices related to the cross-docking operations [14,16,[19][20][21]. For example, Agustina et al [19] performed a detailed review of the mathematical models, which were presented in the literature for CDT planning.…”
