A Review on Polymeric Wound Dress for the Treatment of Burns and Diabetic Wounds

Abstract: Today, various commercial dressings have been developed and introduced to the market. The diversity makes it difficult for the nurse to choose the right type. Although the most important reason to use a wound dress is to protect the wound from infection and prevent infection, but in fact, the main purpose of using these materials is to speed up the wound healing process. Traumatic injuries result in an epithelial wound that disrupts the continuity of the skin surface. These differences reveal as abrasions, pun… Show more

“…Advanced wound dressing plays an important role in surface protection, control of bacteriostatic activity, moisture retention, and shortening of tissue recovery period due to its excellent wound dressing properties [ 15 , 16 ]. The main role of wound dressing includes maintaining wound hydration, absorbing excess wound secretions, minimizing the impact on the wound site, and as a barrier to the entry of foreign microorganisms into the wound site [ 17 , 18 , 19 ]. The nanofiber dressings as a product of nanotechnology were designed to decrease infection, irritation and improve wound healing by providing a positive environment in addition to their usual duties [ 20 , 21 ].…”

“…Some microorganisms colonized in the skin can act as a physical barrier against pathogen invasion [ 3 , 4 ]. Once the skin is damaged, harmful bacteria take the opportunity to invade the tissue and disrupt the balance of the skin's microbial system, resulting in tissue damage and wound infection [ 5 ]. This inevitably disrupts the wound-healing process, imposing significant challenges on patients and healthcare providers.…”

“…They also leave particles and fiber residues in the wound. Therefore, concerns related to traditional dressings and their low performance in treating chronic wounds have led to studies on new types of wound dressings [7].…”
