A Review on PEO Based Solid Polymer Electrolytes (SPEs) Complexed with LiX (X=Tf, BOB) for Rechargeable Lithium Ion Batteries

Abstract: Nanocomposite polymer electrolytes (NCPEs) have been playing a considerable role in the development of alternative clean and sustainable energy technologies. This review article summarizes the recent research progress on the synthesis and characterization of NCPEs and its application in lithium ion battery based energy storage devices. First, an introduction on the properties, synthesis strategies and use of NCPEs is briefly given, followed by a state-of-the-art review on the preparation of NCPEs and their ele… Show more

“…This observation was evidenced by various results reported earlier [41,57,[139][140][141]. The PEO-built solid electrolytes displayed an appropriate conductivity value (10 −4 S cm −1 ) for commercial LIB usage only after their crystalline temperature (T m ); in this case, the amorphous domains are dominant, which permits lithium ions to perceive a greater number of lithium charge carriers [41,120,[142][143][144]. Thus, many attempts have been made, aiming to reduce the crystallinity, as well as to improve the robustness and conductivity in solid polymer electrolytes, which include blended matrices, branched hosts, bulky anionic lithium salts, and the incorporation of additives, such as fillers and plasticizers [145][146][147][148].…”

“…The obtained film is kept in a desiccator with silica gel for further characterization and prevention from the moisture. For high-quality film, the solvent must be free from water content and should dissolve the polymer, salt, and nanoparticle [25].…”

“…However, liquid electrolytes are still applied in LIBs in most cases, and are potentially sources of safety risks. Many studies on polymer electrolytes are currently being conducted in order to substitute liquid electrolytes with non‐volatile and non‐flammable solid electrolytes or gel electrolytes in LIBs …”
