A Review on Management of Invasive Insect Pest Fall Armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Abstract

Agriculture is the backbone of nation as it provides food to the population and most of the country's economy comes from agriculture. Invasive insect pests, Pathogens, weeds, and other threats to global agriculture are all too frequent, resulting in massive loss to both agricultural productivity and the natural environment. Invasive insect pest like Spodoptera frugiperda is a serious problem faced by agriculture and responsible for reduction in crop yield. Spodoptera frugiperda is a most destructive nocturnal insect pest endemic to the tropical and subtropical regions of America and spread in Africa and Asia since 2016. Its high migratory behavior leads rapid expansion which reached to India in May 2018 and up to August 2019 it is spread almost in all states of country leading to huge damage to crop thus causing loss of economy of nation. A combination of control methods should be used to reduce fall armyworm (FAW) infestation rather than relying only on pesticide.
