Online marketing has been the most efficient and useful platform for reaching target markets and building customer relations. Despite its widespread use, the hospitality industry is at its forefront of identifying its most suitable online marketing strategies. This emphasis is crucial to strategic marketing and resource allocation decisions, which may impact the long-term performance of businesses. The need to address both perspectives of customers and businesses, along with the multiple online marketing strategies under the presence of multiple criteria, requires a rigorous analytical and comprehensive approach for evaluating the efficacy of these strategies for the hospitality industry. Thus, this work offers an integrated approach based on the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and the technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) as a decision-making platform for the problem domain. The AHP assigns the corresponding priority weights of the criteria associated with either customers' or businesses' perspectives, while the TOPSIS ranks the importance of the strategies. Results show that the credibility of an online marketing strategy is of the highest priority for the customers, while the businesses highly regard customer loyalty. With the AHP-TOPSIS approach, findings reveal that both perspectives prefer search engines for the hospitality industry. Illustrating the results via a priority tradeoff map of two perspectives, search engines, websites, and blogs are deemed the most viable online marketing strategies relevant to the industry. These findings offer dependable guidelines for the hospitality industry in positioning their online marketing efforts.

Despite the rigid public safety protocols of the restaurant sector amid the COVID-19 pandemic in an effort to restart economic activities, customers do not feel secure eating at a sit-in restaurant, which is associated with prolonged restrictions on movement. As a mitigating initiative, holistically evaluating customers’ perceived degree of exposure to COVID-19 in restaurants is deemed relevant in the design of mitigation measures. Such an agenda is associated with multiple attributes under decision-making uncertainty within the framework of multiple criteria sorting (MCS). Thus, this work addresses this problem domain by proposing an intuitionistic fuzzy set extension of the previously developed TOPSIS-Sort (i.e., IF TOPSIS-Sort). As a case demonstration, 40 restaurants are evaluated under six attributes that define exposure to COVID-19. With 250 survey participants, the IF TOPSIS-Sort assigns 10, 13, and 17 restaurants to low, moderate, and high exposure classes, respectively. With this classification, crucial insights are offered to the restaurant industry for planning and policy formulation. To determine its effectiveness, a comparative analysis was carried with other distance-based MCS methods. Findings reveal that the proposed method is pessimistic and that other methods tend to underestimate the assignments, which may be counterintuitive, especially in applications related to public health. These sorting differences may be associated with addressing the vagueness and uncertainty in decision-making within the IF TOPSIS-Sort platform. The proposed novel IF TOPSIS-Sort is sufficiently generic for other domain sorting applications and contributes to the MCS literature.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present the multi-objective optimization of the dynamic response of isotropic and laminated composite folded plates. The dynamic analysis has been carried out using the finite element method based on the first-order shear deformation theory. Design/methodology/approach Hamilton’s principle has been employed for the derivation of the governing equations. Natural frequencies are obtained using the eigenvalue extraction method. The optimal combination of the crank angle, lamination scheme and boundary conditions on the natural frequencies of folded plates for their safe and optimal dynamic design has been obtained. The analysis has been carried out using finite element approach based on FSDT to obtain the dynamic equation of single- and double-fold laminated plates. In total, 15 experiments as per Taguchi’s standard L15 orthogonal array have been performed. Further, standard deviation (SD) based TOPSIS method is used to perform multi-response optimization of folded plates in order to rank the combination of the input parameters. Findings SD integrated with TOPSIS reveals that Experiment No. 8 (crank angle=90° and anti-symmetric lamination scheme=0°/90°/0°/90°), Experiment No. 14 (crank angle=150° and anti-symmetric lamination scheme=0o/90o/0o/90o), Experiment No. 2 (crank angle=30° and anti-symmetric lamination scheme=0°/90°/0°/90°) and Experiment No. 3 (crank angle=30° and symmetric lamination scheme=0°/90°/0°/90°) occupy rank 1 for one fold, one end clamped, one fold, two ends clamped, two folds, one end clamped and two folds, two ends clamped conditions, respectively, in order to maximize the modal response corresponding to the fundamental mode. Originality/value SD-based technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) method is used to rank the process parameters. The optimum combination of the input parameters on the multi-response optimization of dynamics of the folded plates has also been evaluated using the analysis of mean (ANOM).
