A Review on Image Processing Sensor

Abstract: Image sensors are used in all digital cameras, mobile phones and all other devices where images are to be captured. The most common parameter used by consumers to compare the different cameras is the pixel array size which is usually given in Mega pixels. The image quality is better with a higher megapixel count. Another parameter to distinguish between the different cameras is the type of imaging technology used like CMOS (Complementary metal oxide semiconductor) or CCD (Charge coupled devices). In this revie… Show more

“…Photoelectrons are generated when light photons of sufficient energy impact the image sensor. The number of photoelectrons that are generated is related to the intensity of the incident light, which allows the image to be reconstructed [ 43 ] by detecting the near-UV and visible photons that are produced during the corona discharge process [ 7 ] as a consequence of ionization, excitation, and recombination processes [ 44 ]. Digital cameras are known to detect both the near UV and the visible spectrum [ 45 ].…”

“…Both sensor types allow the acquisition of a million pixels in a single image with high spectral and spatial resolution. Nevertheless, CMOS sensors show higher sensitivity and low power consumption but also higher background noise and dark current [ 32 ]. The PHCs collect images using the natural light, and the imaging system cannot function in a dark or low-light environment [ 33 ].…”

“…Digital image sensors are widely found in digital cameras, smartphones, and many other devices that capture images. When a photon of adequate energy hits a pixel of the sensor, photoelectrons are generated in a number proportional to the intensity of the incident light so that the image can be reconstructed [ 36 ]. Each pixel structure has a photosensitive element, usually a photodiode that generates a charge in response to incident light.…”
