A Review on Flicker-Free AC–DC LED Drivers for Single-Phase and Three-Phase AC Power Grids

Abstract: Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are coming strongly into the lighting market due to their advantages over conventional lighting solutions: energy efficient, controllable in both light and color, long lifetime, lack of a warm-up period and high power density. Some of these advantages will make LED light sources to be more than just a lightbulb, being able to transmit data, control light color, hue and intensity or even detect people in indoor environments. Nevertheless, these advantages attributed to LED capabilit… Show more

“…Use of an impedance between the ac line and the LED light bulb load to fix and limit the current is mandatory. The main drawbacks of these passive topologies are the low PF and THD featured, sometimes not enough to comply with the standards [14]. Passive LED drivers can be arranged in two main categories, lossy and lossless (ideal) passive circuits [15].…”

“…Segundo Castro et al (2019a), pode-se dividir os drivers trifásicos de estágio único em dois grupos: os de apenas um interruptor controlado (single-switch) e os de dois ou mais interruptores controlados (multi-switch).…”

“…In order for the LED to operate normally under alternating current (AC), it must be driven by converting the AC input voltage into the DC output voltage through conversion devices such as transformers, rectifiers, etc. [1]. The conventional method is to connect the AC input source to a bridge rectifier.…”
