Bolt is an important connection in underground construction and monitoring its stress characteristics is essential to evaluate the effectiveness of bolt. The strain information collected along a rock bolt reveals the long-term movement characteristics of rock mass, which greatly helps toward disaster prevention and risk warning.Grooving on the surface of a bolt and embedding an optical fiber is one of the main methods for monitoring the anchorage performance and stress distribution around the bolt in underground engineering. In this study, Pulse Pre-Pumped Brillouin Optical Time Domain Analysis (PPP-BOTDA) technology is used to evaluate the stress, axial force, and shear stress distribution of the bolt under tensile load for different types (grooved and nongrooved) of bolts embedded in concrete with resin as anchoring agent. The results show that the PPP-BOTDA sensor can be used to monitor the stress state of the bolt embedded in concrete with resin as anchoring agent when the bolt is subjected to a tensile force. However, the apparent stress value measured in this way is not the actual stress value of the bolt, but is an increased value caused due to the groove. The closer to the exposed end of the bolt, the greater is the deviation between the apparent stress value and the actual stress value of the bolt. Based on the monitoring results from this experimental study, a stress reduction calculation method is proposed, which can change the measured value into the actual stress of the bolt. The non-destructive evaluation (NDE) of civil infrastructure has been an active area of research in recent decades. The traditional inspection of civil infrastructure mostly relies on visual inspection using human inspectors. To facilitate this process, different sensors for data collection and techniques for data analyses have been used to effectively carry out this task in an automated fashion. This review-based study will examine some of the recent developments in the field of autonomous robotic platforms for NDE and the structural health monitoring (SHM) of bridges. Some of the salient features of this review-based study will be discussed in the light of the existing surveys and reviews that have been published in the recent past, which will enable the clarification regarding the novelty of the present review-based study. The review methodology will be discussed in sufficient depth, which will provide insights regarding some of the primary aspects of the review methodology followed by this review-based study. In order to provide an in-depth examination of the state-of-the-art, the current research will examine the three major research streams. The first stream relates to technological robotic platforms developed for NDE of bridges. The second stream of literature examines myriad sensors used for the development of robotic platforms for the NDE of bridges. The third stream of literature highlights different algorithms for the surface- and sub-surface-level analysis of bridges that have been developed by studies in the past. A number of challenges towards the development of robotic platforms have also been discussed.

India is a country of diversity not only in terms of culture and population but also in terms of landscape ranging from snow-capped mountains to desserts, plateaus, plains and hills. The climatic conditions in India vary from extremely hot to extremely cold resulting in the requirement of different types of constructions in each region subjected to its temperature, geographical and climate conditions. India is a county where thousands of years old buildings are still standing strong despite several changes in various factors over the years, whereas a few years old building collapses more easily, which raises the most important question in our mind regarding the Structural health of buildings over the years and how Well structure health monitoring is done in India. Structural Health Monitoring is defined as a process of identification of damage for aerospace, mechanical and civil infrastructure. Performance of the structures are determined by various factors such as the age of the building, material used, service condition and layout of the structure besides performance, safety, reliability and serviceability are also the crucial points. SHM technology is implemented in various countries like Europe, USA, Korea, Japan etc. for monitoring of large structures. The main aim behind the implementation of SHM is to determine the damage during initiation itself so that the further damage propagation can be ceased by an alarm in the initial stage with the help of continuous monitoring by structurally integrated sensors.
