A Review on Ecology of Interactions in Soybean Vein Necrosis Orthotospovirus (SVNV): Plants, Vectors, Virus Dispersal and Management Perspectives

Abstract: Soybean vein necrosis orthotospovirus (SVNV, Genus: Orthotospovirus, Family: Tospoviridae, Order Bunyavirales) is a vector and seed transmitted virus that infects soybean in different countries around the world. The purpose of this review paper was to provide information about SVNV, its geographic dispersal, vectors, disease transmission mode, alternative host plants, diagnostic tools and management. SVNV is a negative-sense single-stranded RNA virus reported in all soybean growing states in the USA, Egypt and… Show more

“…Soybean is affected by a number of arthropod pests and diseases. Among the pathogens causing diseases on soybean, the species Soybean vein necrosis orthotospovirus (SVNV) (Orthotospovirus: Tospoviridae: Bunyavirales) is a widely recognized seed-borne and vector-transmitted virus [ 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 ]. While the seed-borne transmission route is limited, it provides for movement of the virus into new areas through trade routes.…”

“…Soybean is often grown in close proximity to other field crops and wild plant species [10]. Thrips can inhabit a wide range of plants, and various plants can act as reservoir host plants of both the vector and virus [11,18].…”
