A review on current diagnostic techniques for COVID-19

Abstract: Introduction: SARS-Cov-2 first appeared in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 and spread all over the world soon after that. Given the infectious nature ofSARS-CoV-2, fast and accurate diagnosis tools are important to detect the virus. In this review, we discuss the different diagnostic tests that are currently being implemented in laboratories and provide a description of various COVID-19 kits. Areas covered: We summarize molecular techniques that target the viral load, serological methods used for SARS-CoV-2 spe… Show more

“…During the course of COVID‐19, IgM and IgG type Abs are occurring 10 . The data about SARS‐CoV‐2 indicate that less than 40% of these Abs were encountered in the first week, and the rate of Abs in the first 15 days was 94.3% (IgM) and 79.8% (IgG) 6 .…”

“…Inspired by these studies, RT-LAMP-based methods have been developed to enable the rapid detection of SARS-CoV-2. In specific, several RT-LAMP-enhanced fluorescent/colorimetric assays target different SARS-CoV-2 gene regions [ 69 , 70 ]. However, these reported RT-LAMP assays suffer the risk of false positive results because of the use of traditional monitoring techniques, such as agarose gel electrophoresis, SYBR Green, calcein, or pH indicators that are not specific for SARS-CoV-2 LAMP products [ 55 , 71 ].…”

“…Molecular tests for COVID-19 are generally divided into two types: viral and antibody testing [50,51]. Viral testing can identify whether a person is currently infected with SARS-CoV-2.…”
