A review of wireless sensor networks and its applications

Abstract: In recent ten years, wireless sensor network technology has a rapid development. After a brief introduction of the wireless sensor network, some main research results of energy conservation and node deployment is provided. Then the applications of WSN in the medical health, environment and agriculture, intelligent home furnishing and building, military, space and marine exploration are outlined. In addition, we analyze the advantage of WSN in these areas. Finally, we summarize the main factors that affect the … Show more

“…Recent years has seen the rapid development of a new wireless network technology, the wireless sensor network (WSN). It realizes the seamless connection between people and the monitoring area through sensor nodes scattered in the monitoring area and real-time monitoring of environmental regions [14]. As a concrete form of WSN, Zig-Bee has the advantages of low rate, low power consumption, low cost, self-organizing network and selfrepairing ability [15].…”

“…Recent advancements in wireless electronics and sensing technology has led to production of low cost versatile wireless sensor nodes which has lower maintenance and deployment costs, longer lifetime and is adaptable to harsh environments [1].. Wireless sensor network consists of sensing, central processing unit and radio transceiver. In WSN a sensing technology is used in which sensor nodes or motes are used which are tiny, autonomous and compact devices.…”
