A Review of Urban Heat Island formation over changing climate and its impacts on Urban Land Use and Environments and Adaptation Measures

Abstract: Climate change and associated global warming adversely impact urban environments, which leads to the increasing of land surface temperature (LST) and the formation of urban heat islands (UHI). In this study, the author has attempted to present current understandings of UHI formation over changing climate and its probable impacts on urban land use and environmental risks. The review provides a thorough understanding of the UHI and how this impacts urban communities, land use, and environments. In addition, the … Show more

“…Machine learning algorithms can analyze spatial data to calculate the distance from each household or business to the nearest service point. This assists local governments in identifying areas where services are not easily accessible, and subsequently, where service accessibility needs to be improved ( Müller et al, 2018 ; Sumanta, 2022 ).…”

“…Several scholars (Efe, 2002;Mazzeo, 1998;Ayoade, 1993;Landsberg, 1981;Omere, 2001;Livingstone, 2006;Das, 2022;Philipps,et al, 2022;Çolakkadıoğlu, 2023) have used the concept of urban heat islands in both temperate and tropical regions across the globe. According to these studies, the climate of a city shifts as it grows.…”

“…Greenhouse gas emissions and LULC changes are the main factors affecting LST values (Sharma and Joshi, 2016;Koday and Kızılkan, 2019;Atak and Tonyaloğlu, 2020;Das et al 2021;Das, 2022;Amadou and Arouna, 2022). Industrialization mainly depended on fossil fuels escalates greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the rate of greenhouse gases in the lower atmosphere (troposphere).…”

“…In addition, the studies on LST and UHI show that determining the factors affecting LST and the relationship between these factors is of great importance in the development of measures to reduce the urban heat island effect (e.g. Guo et al, 2015;Bakar et al, 2016;Das, 2022).…”
