A Review of TRIZ Tools for Forecasting the Evolution of Technical Systems

Abstract: This article presents tools used in the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) which are useful when assessing the evolution direction of technical systems. The following matters are discussed: the S-shaped curve, laws (trends and lines) of the evolution of technical systems, multi-screen diagrams, as well as analysis of evolutionary potential. Inventive laws formulated by Gienrich Altshuller as well as laws previously formulated by a Polish writer and promoter of knowledge, Aleksander Głowacki, writing un… Show more

“…Existing methods on the product evolution analysis are classified as approaches of customer demands driven and technology advancements driven. 25,26 The customer demands driven approach for the product evolution analysis usually includes two steps of analyzing trends of customer demands, and mapping customer demands into a set of product specifications for new product design. Opinions from experts and/or customers are collected for the prediction of potential trends of market/customer requirements on product features.…”

“…The possibility of technology advancements and their impacts on new product developments are analyzed for predicting potential product evolutions. 25,26,30 However, due to the complexities and uncertainties in both new product development and changing market requirements, it is realized that to enhance design adaptability for product evolution is more practical than to improve the evolution prediction accuracy.…”

“…The use of hybrid body technologies (i.e., those resulting from the combination of different materials in order to exploit their properties synergically) in machine tool load-bearing systems manufactured individually or in small batches can provide specific benefits in terms of a significant reduction in the design time, particularly in terms of the calculations needed to shape their structure and the desired static and dynamic properties [1]. It is particularly important to shape the desired resistance of the designed machine tool frame to chatter [2][3][4][5][6][7].…”
