A review of the quantum current standard

Abstract: The electric current, voltage, and resistance standards are the most important standards related to electricity and magnetism. Of these three standards, only the ampere, which is the unit of electric current, is an International System of Units (SI) base unit. However, even with modern technology, relatively large uncertainty exists regarding the generation and measurement of current. As a result of various innovative techniques based on nanotechnology and novel materials, new types of junctions for quantum cu… Show more

“…There are various types of electron pumps based on the SET effect , and schematic pictures of two examples of SET electron pump device principles are shown in Figs and . The charging energy of the Coulomb island is the most important parameter of the device, and it defines the working temperature and error rates due to surrounding noise . Thus, the charging energy E C should be far larger than thermal and other incoming noise: EC=e22CΔEh2()Δt.…”

“…Detailed reviews on topical SEP devices and their possible applications in electrical metrology are given in refs. []. In the past years, the revision of the SI had intensified the research activities on SEPs as metrological devices because of their possible use as future quantum current sources, with special focus on increasing their accuracy and output current.…”
