More than 600 species have been described in 22 genera (Meyer 1979 ;Evans et al 1993 ) and, given the diversity of undescribed forms in Australia, this must be a minor component of the true diversity of the group. The remaining three families of tetranychoid mites, Tuckerellidae, Linotetranidae and Allochaetophoridae, are rarely important agriculturally and account for less than 30 described species in fi ve genera (Meyer and Ueckermann 1997 ). Linotetranid mites ( Linotetranus , Afrolinotus , and Anoplopalpus ) are associated with soil collected among grasses and are unique among the tetranychoids in completely lacking eyes.…”
