A review of snow melting and de-icing technologies for trains

Abstract: Train icing may cause a series of problems to the safety of railway transportation in high and cold regions. Some important technologies on solving this issue are discussed in this paper, with the latest research landscape provided and the future development opportunities suggested. The hazards and principles of train icing are explained firstly, followed by a summary of several available methods of snow melting and de-icing, with their application and shortcomings indicated. The research progress of some basi… Show more

“…In addition, the spring deflection of the primary suspension Measurements with this optical measurement set-up should not take place under the described weather conditions. To keep the device operational between measurements, measures, as described by Zhou et al [24], may be necessary. In addition, wetness created by the wheels of the train throwing snow and water caused further disturbances in the measuring system.…”

“…China first introduced imported self-snow melting technology and materials around 2000. In recent years, many domestic road researchers have embarked on the study of self-snow melting technology [20]. Zhou et al adopted Japanese snow melting technology to research and develop self-snow melting additives [21].…”
