A Review of Scale Development Practices in the Study of Organizations

Abstract: Questionnaires are the most commonly used method of data collection infield research (Stone, 1978). Problems with the reliability and validity of measures used on questionnaires has often led to difficulties in interpreting the results of field research (Cook, Hepworth, Wall & Wart-, 1981; Schriesheim, Powers, Scandura, Gardiner & Lankau, 1993). This article reviews scale development procedures for 277 measures used in 75 articles published in leading academic journals from 1989 to 1994. It points out … Show more

“…Moreover, the validity of the scale measured by principal components extraction of factor analysis. Table 2 illustrates the results of principal components extraction which show that item loadings ranging from 0.43 to 0.85, therefore each item of the scale add value per standardized value which is 0.4 (Hinkin, 1995). Add to that, the results of Cronbach's alpha test of the instrument show that the reliability coefficient is 0.82, which means that the scale of financial literacy is reliable per standardized value which determined by Nunnally and Bernstein (1994).…”
