A review of Risk Factors for Post-traumatic hip and knee osteoarthritis following musculoskeletal injuries other than anterior cruciate ligament rupture.

Abstract: Post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) is a common form of osteoarthritis that might occur after any joint trauma. Most PTOA publications mainly focus on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries. However, many other traumatic injuries are associated with PTOA, not only for the knee but also for the hip joint. We aim to identify and summarize the existing literature on the musculoskeletal injuries associated with knee and hip PTOA and their risk factors in determining those with a worse prognosis, excluding ACL … Show more

“…Castano Betancourt и соавт. [20] провели метаанализ 122 исследований, в которых анализируются факторы риска ПТОА. Было показано, что наличие серьезного повреждения мениска повышает вероятность развития данной патологии почти в 8 раз (отношение шансов, ОШ 7,9; 95% ДИ 4,4-14).…”

“…Beyond subsequent injury, acute injury also results in a potential low return to general physical fitness activity 7 and in the case of athletes, a reduction in competitive physical activity 8 . Finally, in many cases of acute musculoskeletal injury, a high incidence of post traumatic osteoarthritis persists 9–11 . Collectively, these data suggest a significant gap in our current model of care for patients with acute musculoskeletal injury exists as it results in a return to less active lifestyles, with increased risk for future injury and long‐term chronic pathology.…”
