A review of protection against exposome factors impacting facial skin barrier function with 89% mineralizing thermal water

Abstract: Background The skin exposome refers to the constellation of external exposures that contribute to cutaneous aging, including solar radiation, air pollution, tobacco smoke, unbalanced nutrition, and cosmetic products. This review explores the skin exposome and the role of a combination hyaluronic acid and mineralized thermal water product used to restore and maintain optimal skin barrier function. Method An expert panel of 7 dermatologists who treat clinical signs of facial aging convened for a one‐day meeting … Show more

“…In agreement with data published by Salsberg et al13 about a clinical study on M89, the product was very well tolerated in both populations with dermatological condition or postprocedures, with no reported safety issues, and was very much appreciated by subjects and investigators. In this survey, the similar results obtained from the two groups (dermatoses and use after esthetic procedures) suggest that M89 facilitates skin barrier restoration.Currently, adjunctive skin care to prescription medications is recognized as being increasingly important in the management of facial dermatoses such as rosacea or sensitive skin, characterized by cutaneous irritation, inflammation, or xerosis, and formulations suitable for sensitive skin are increasingly preferred. M89, a product containing natural active ingredients in a minimalist formulation, is a new advance in the adjunctive skin care. Moreover, esthetic procedures have become increasingly popular to address the signs of skin aging such as facial lines, furrow, wrinkles, and dyschromia; and other signs of damage such as scars.…”

“…13 The chosen, noncomparative study design did not allow comparing the benefit of M89 versus its vehicle or a comparator product. The decrease of prevalence of subjects with clinical signs was statistically significant (P ˂ .0001, see However, especially, lasers, peels, and microdermabrasion can lead to skin barrier damage followed by erythema and irritation.…”

“…HAS-2, stimulated by growth factors, induces HA synthesis in skin keratinocytes [9,10]. Also, HAS-3 plays an essential role in the synthesis of hyaluronan in the epidermis [11]. Another important gene in skin hydration is aquaporin 3 (AQP3), one of 13 isotypes of aquaporin transmembrane channels in humans.…”

“…The concept of the human skin exposome was introduced more than a decade ago, inducing cutaneous aging, sensitive, and reactive skin [18]. Hyperreactivity of the skin's neural response is postulated to play a role in sensitive skin [19].…”
