A Review of Offshore Wave Energy Extraction System

Abstract: Offshore wave energy can be easily predicted and is proved to be much better than other forms of ocean energy such as shoreline wave, near-shore wave, and tides. Research on offshore wave energy extraction has been carried out in many countries to meet the growing demand for clean energy and reduce the impact on natural environment. This paper reviews the development of offshore wave energy extraction systems in the recent decade. Several aspects are introduced, including a global wave energy resource assessme… Show more

“…Another model which operates using the same principle is the Sea-Breath. This is a light attenuator; it is still under development at Padova University, Italy [8]. LEANCON is a multi-chamber device that is arranged in two rows in a V-shaped formation.…”

“…An increasing number of research institutions, governments, as well as private sector investors are becoming involved in such research subject [1]. The number of devices, based on a wide range of working principles [2][3][4] is growing; some projects already reached a full scale demonstration stage and are moving toward a commercially viable phase, while the growing number of patents is a clear sign of investment in emerging technologies.…”

“…One example would be to construct the section of a corner into a slit type, absorbed type, or a curved type. [1][2][3][4] The purpose of this study is to reduce the incident wave energy before it reaches the corner of the breakwater by utilizing the dredged region (trench region). When the high-energy sourced waves pass over the trench with discontinuity water depth, the high wave energy level can be reduced.…”
