“…Nardosinone is a nardosinane‐type sesquiterpene compound isolated from N. jatamanasi , and previous studies have shown that nardosinone is a major contributor to the diverse biological function of the herb (Wen et al, 2021). Regarding the effects on skeletal disorders, only the study by Niu et al (2017) has demonstrated that nardosinone can suppress RANKL‐induced osteoclastogenesis and attenuate lipopolysaccharide‐induced alveolar bone resorption, providing valuable information for further assessing the anti‐OA potential of nardosinone.…”

“…(Valerianaceae) is a medicinal plant that is widely used in different formulas of traditional medicine in China, India, and Korea for the treatment of epilepsy, toothache, indigestion, and heart disease (Li et al, 2019; Rehman & Ahmad, 2019; Wen et al, 2020). The studies regarding the pharmacological effects of N. jatamansi have shown that the plant is characterized by anti‐inflammatory, anti‐oxidant, anti‐cancer, neuroprotective, cardioprotective, and many more properties (Wen et al, 2021). Based on the findings of previous studies, N. jatamansi contains bioactive compounds such as 8α–hydroxypinoresinol, desoxo‐narchinol, nardosinonediol, and kanshone A, of which nardosinone (Figure 1) is a major active ingredient in N. jatamanasi with a sesquiterpenoid structure and has been proved to play important roles in the anti‐inflammatory, neuroprotective, cardioprotective and other potential pharmacological effects of N. jatamanasi (Du et al, 2013; Li et al, 2014; Niu et al, 2017).…”

“…Nardosinone is a sesquiterpene peroxide and exists in a variety of medicinal plants, such as Nardostachys jatamansi DC. [ 1 ], Millettia speciosa [ 2 ], Sargassum fusiforme [ 3 ], Taraxacum kok-saghyz Rodin [ 4 ], Chrysanthemum morifolium [ 5 ]. In addition, nardosinone was also detected in Mahuang Fuzi Xixin decoction [ 6 ].…”

“…Pharmacological studies have shown that NRR has pharmacological effects of improving headaches, palpitations, and syncope [ 9 ], and it also has antioxidant, neuroprotective, antiepileptic, cardioprotective, anti-neuroinflammation, and other pharmacological activities [ 10 , 11 , 12 ]. Furthermore, NRR is mainly used in the form of compound prescription in clinical, e.g., Wenxin Granules can be used to treat premature ventricular contractions in patients with chronic heart failure [ 1 ].…”
