“…Current treatments for common and flat verrucae involve the destruction of the infected cells. Chemical approaches include daily topical salicylic acid [ 1 ], topical cantharidin [ 2 ], or intralesional injections of agents with immune activity [ 3 ] or cell‐killing activity [ 4 ]. Physical destruction modalities include freezing the verrucae with liquid nitrogen cryotherapy [ 5 ] and burning them off with electrodessication [ 6 ] or laser treatment [ 7 ].…”

“…Cidofovir is an antiviral medication most commonly used to treat cytomegalovirus retinitis in patients with human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS). 6 Other off-label indications for its use include infections such as acyclovir-resistant herpes simplex virus infection, BK virus infection, adenovirus infection, and recurrent respiratory papillomatosis. Cidofovir can be administered intravenously, intralesionally, or topically depending on the clinical indication.…”

“…4 The lack of patient adherence to long treatment regimens and financial burdens associated with purchasing medication may also present significant barriers to appropriate care for individuals with cutaneous warts. 4 Various treatments for resistant warts have been explored, including cryotherapy, curettage/cautery, intralesional (IL) immunotherapy, laser therapy, intralesional bleomycin, cimetidine, and vitamin D. [4][5][6] In recent years, cidofovir has emerged as an option for treatment of refractory warts. Cidofovir is an antiviral medication most commonly used to treat cytomegalovirus retinitis in patients with human immunodeficiency virus/ acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/ AIDS).…”

“…Topical digoxin and furosemide have been used successfully for wart treatment in some cases and demonstrates clear and statistically significant pharmacodynamics effects with a favorable safety profile 9,10 . Intralesional therapy in warts treatment is better than topical application as it permits higher drug concentrations throughout the lesion so requires less number of sessions, no need for individual treatment of each wart, show promising efficacy, low or absent recurrence by increasing the local immune response with minimal adverse effects and trusting that the patient does not miss the dose and is recommended for multiple warts that are resistant to therapy, as well as warts that are in difficult‐to‐treat areas (ears, anogenital region) and hard‐to‐treat warts like palmar and plantar warts 1,11 . So, the aim of this study was to evaluate efficacy and safety of intralesional combined furosemide and digoxin in treatment of multiple cutaneous warts.…”
