A Review of Inspection Methods for Continuously Monitoring PVC Drinking Water Mains

Abstract: The drinking water mains, mostly buried underground and stay there for decades, require proper maintenance to prevent failures. Among different kinds of material, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) has been widely used due to positive features such as high durability, corrosion resistance, low price, and easy installation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first paper that reviews the inspection methods toward continuously monitoring the structural health of PVC drinking water mains. To understand which properti… Show more

“…Due to its high durability, corrosion resistance, low price, and ease of installation, poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) finds many practical applications not only in industry but also in everyday life [ 79 ]. The largest PVC sales markets include the production of window profiles (27% of the total PVC application in Europe) and pipes, e.g., for drinking water (22% of the total PVC application in Europe).…”

“…Node randomisation: For regular decision trees, the root node is located at the top of the tree and contains all the original data. As the data at the root node is split, each node finds the best way to split the nodes, which requires passing all attribute variables to form different leaf nodes prior to splitting [10]. Adjustment by pruning operations is also required to reduce errors and over-fitting.…”
