Much of the research can be traced to specific areas, such as the granitic-rhyolitic areas of Fort Lamy in Chad (Barbeau & Gkze, 1957); in the Benue basin of northern Cameroon (Roch, 1953); in various parts of East Africa (Cotton, 1961;Harpum, 1963;Doornkamp, 1968;Ojany, 1969;Gardino, 1973;Whithow & Shakesby, 1988); and in West Africa (Savigear, 1960;Thomas, 1965;1966a;1966b;1967;I93 1969Pugh, 1966;Thorp, 1967a;1967b;Jeje, 1970;1973a;1974a;Faniran, 1974;Jeje & Akande, 1990). There are almost as many theories as there are writers on the origin of inselbergs.…”
