This study explored the implications of taxes on ride-hailing services in a developing economy setting and its effect on the activities of drivers who patronize such services. Using thematic analysis, the study analyzed interview responses from key participants in the ride-hailing services such as the drivers, service operators, and vehicle owners based on the sharing economy perspective. The results indicate that (1) in a broader sense the contribution of the ride-hailing service is characterized with some features such as savings in money and time, ease of stress for both drivers and passengers, and also ease of movement; (2) taxes are needful to ensure sustainable governance but these taxes ought to be equitably charged to all actors within the economy and (3) the Vehicle Income Tax is a cause of financial distress to Uber drivers due to its increasing nature. More importantly, the tax has the potential of eroding profits which makes drivers worse off. This new but genre system of transportation is gaining roots and far advancing within the Ghanaian landscape. Thus, policymakers and industry players must focus on its role within the economy and the benefits therefrom. Equally, there must be more policy initiatives to prevent overburdening the final consumer of ride-hailing services with high taxes and prices. It also suggested that subsequent studies focus on the use of a different methodology within a different or the same setting.

This paper presents an integrated approach that combines both the affordance and means-end chain (MEC) perspectives to examine the cognitive structure of offline retail consumers in relation to the material properties of Augmented Reality (AR) technology. Drawing from both perspectives, we propose that while an information technology (IT) artefact gives rise to affordances through its interactions with users' goals, personal values play a role in the emergence of affordances as well. We present our preliminary study whereby we conducted 15 laddering interviews to investigate how consumers use AR, the benefits that consumers seek to obtain when using AR in offline retail and why they seek to pursue them. Our findings suggest that the AR affordances that emerged in relation to consumers' goals enable consumers to achieve both utilitarian and hedonic values. Further, we identified and discussed AR-related boundaries stemming from user and AR capacity limitations. Based on our exploratory findings and proposed integrated framework, we conclude this paper with suggestions on potential future research directions.

Purpose: The article presents the development of a framework to analyze the use of big data and analytics in organizations. The framework is based on affordance theory and actor-network theory (ANT). Originality/value: Big data and analytics are a set of tools and techniques that are not new, but recently have received much attention from the media and academia. The media promotes big data and analytics while the academia addresses the fact that there are still implementation obstacles and the process of using big data analytics is not well understood. Design/methodology/approach: We used a qualitative approach, in the form of a theoretical essay. We analyzed papers that related affordance theory with IT and, in particular, with big data and analytics. Further, in order to create the resulting framework, an illustrative case study was conducted. Findings: Affordance theory, allied to the translation concept of ANT, can be useful when analyzing the process of using big data and analytics in organizations, because it contemplates individual and organizational aspects, covering the perception of utility, necessary sociotechnical transformations in processes, people and structures, actual use and organizational effects. As the main contribution, we proposed a framework that includes elements of translation to guide future research.
