A Review of anomaly detection techniques in advanced metering infrastructure

Abstract: Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is a component of electrical networks that combines the energy and telecommunication infrastructure to collect, measure and analyze consumer energy consumptions. One of the main elements of AMI is a smart meter that used to manage electricity generation and distribution to end-user. The rapid implementation of AMI raises the need to deliver better maintenance performance and monitoring more efficiently while keeping consumers informed on their consumption habits. The conv… Show more

“…The desired trait of the anomaly is the key point to selecting an appropriate anomaly detection approach (Al-Ghaili, Ibrahim, Hairi, Rahim, & Kasim, 2021). Based on it, the anomaly can be divided into point anomaly, contextual anomaly and collective anomaly.…”

“…We do not focus on the details of specific ML models. We refer to the surveys in [18], [19] and [20] for readers interested in comparisons of ML approaches for detection of anomalous activity in power distribution networks. Most of the methods described in the referenced work above can benefit from the synthetic data generation approach presented in this paper.…”

“…The AMI network can do things like record meter points, talk to customers' homes, and turn on and off services. (14,15,16) Power Line Communication (PLC) and wireless systems like Global System Mobile (GSM) and WiMAX are two examples of possible communication architectures. (17) Data is digitized and compressed before transmission via GSM, a digital mobile phone technology.…”
